Our statement of faith
The Holy Scriptures as originally given by God are divinely inspired, infallible, entirely trustworthy, and function authoritatively in matters of faith and conduct.
(Matthew 5:18; John 10:35; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
There is one God, creator of all things, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
(Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; Acts 5:3-4; Hebrews 1:8)
Our Lord Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh; we affirm His virgin birth, sinless humanity, baptism, divine miracles, crucifixion and death, bodily resurrection, ascension, ongoing mediatorial work, and personal return in power and glory.
(Matthew 1:18-25, 26:38; John 1:14; Luke 1:26-38; 1 Corinthians 15:1-11; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; Hebrews 2:14, 7:25)
The salvation of lost and sinful humanity is possible only through the merits of the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, received by faith apart from works, and is characterized by regeneration through the Holy Spirit.
(Genesis 2:17, 3:6-15; John 14:6; Mark 1:15, 10:45; Acts 3:18-21; Romans 3:21-26, 5:16-19; 2 Corinthians 5:14-15; 1 Peter 3:18)
The Holy Spirit enables believers to live a holy life, to witness and work for and with the Lord Jesus Christ and His kingdom and is working to bring others to faith in Jesus.
(John 3:5-7, 14:16-17, 16:7-11; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9-17; Ephesians. 1:13-14, 2:10, 5:19-21; Philippians 1:6; 2 Thessalonians 2:13)
The Church, the Body of Christ, consists of all those who follow and trust in Jesus, confess Him as their Lord, and are united by the Holy Spirit.
(John 3:16; Acts 1:5, 2:42, 11:15-18; Romans 6:1-11; Ephesians 4:4-6; Colossians 1:13-20; 1 John 3:23-24)
Ultimately God will bring about a new heaven and a new earth, and judge the living and the dead, those who are saved unto the resurrection of life, those who are lost unto the resurrection of judgement.
(Isaiah 9:6-7, 11:1-5; Matthew 24:30, 25:31-46; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Corinthians 15:12-28, 15:50-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18; Revelation 20:11-21:8)
The Apostle’s Creed
The Apostles’ Creed is the foundational creed of Christian churches. It has received this title because of its great antiquity; most of the creed dates from the early 2nd century. The creed was used as a summary of Christian doctrine for baptismal candidates in the churches of Rome. Though many churches and flavors of Christianity throughout the ages have different interpretations of the Bible, and embrace various doctrinal nuances, the essence of what the Scriptures teach is found in the words of the Apostles’ Creed.
Therefore, we have fellowship with other members of the Body of Christ who profess their faith as follows:
We believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic (universal) church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.
The Nicene Creed
Similarly, the Nicene Creed was developed in the 3rd Century as a foundational statement of belief for early Christian churches across the Greco-Roman world:
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God,
begotten of the Father before all worlds;
God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God;
begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.
Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven,
and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man;
and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered and was buried;
and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures;
and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father;
and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead;
whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life;
who proceeds from the Father and the Son;
who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified;
who spoke by the prophets.
And I believe in one holy catholic (universal) and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins;
and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
