Open Homes
Open Homes connects newly arrived refugee claimants (Guests) to Host homes, where they can stay for up for 4 months. They are supported by people called Companions, who help them get used to life in Hamilton through fun outings, birthday celebrations, assistance at food banks, helping them learn the bus system, etc. The whole Kinship Circle is led by a Kinship Circle Leader, who knows about the systems and resources that the Guest can access and who helps all the communication run smoothly.
L’Arche
We create communities with a culture of shared lives between people with and without intellectual disabilities, from which we can work together to build a more human society. Mutual relationships & trust in God are at the heart of our journey. We celebrate people with intellectual disabilities and build circles of support around them. We go beyond supporting people's basic needs. It is this focus on building relationships and cultivating a sense of belonging that makes us different.
